Avatar Tree of Souls
The avatar Tree holds great importance for the Omatikaya Na’vi clan, serving as their hallowed connection to Eywa, their divinity. Situated within a caldera-shaped enclave, it stands tall with willow-like features, decorated with glowing tendrils that brighten the surroundings. The tree’s extensive root system spreads outwards, indicating its deep connection to the land. Na’vi individuals visit the tree to seek guidance from Eywa, perform healing rituals, or express gratitude for the balance of life. It serves as a focal point for spiritual communion and keeping the delicate balance of their ecosystem.
Awakening the Spirit: The Na’vi and the Tree of Life
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, the avatar Tree of Souls shines brightly with the wonder and magic of Pandora from the new movie “Avatar: The Way of Water.” Special projections beautify the iconic tree, adding to its nightly awakening as a symbol of magic. Visitors can experience the charm of Pandora firsthand by exploring Pandora – The World of Avatar only at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Finding the Tree of Souls
The avatar tree is installed within the vibrant landscape of Pandora, amidst the awe-inspiring floating Hallelujah Mountains and adjacent to a vast unobtanium deposit near the Omatikaya clan’s Hometree. Its precise location is marked by coordinates 34°03’00” N, 118°14’00″W. Surrounded by a basin measuring roughly 60 meters in diameter, the tree is sheltered by an extraordinary arrangement of rock hooks, forming a protective shell around it. This unique natural formation improves the tree’s sense of security and isolation, making it challenging to locate amidst the lush surroundings of Pandora.
Tree of Souls: Protecting Pandora’s Heart
Miles Quaritch learned about the avatar tree from Jake’s videos and used this knowledge to plan an attack. He wanted to destroy the tree to drive away the Na’vi from the area. Knowing the Na’vi would avoid the devastated area, he launched a full-scale invasion two days later. Jake gave a speech to rally: the Omatikaya for war against the danger.
Quaritch’s forces were stronger and managed to defeat the Na’vi, but his plan failed due to Pandora’s wildlife and chaotic conditions. The tree remained unharmed, despite explosives coming close to it. After the battle, the Omatikaya successfully transferred Jake’s consciousness to his avatar body, making him fully part of their community forever.
How do the Tree of Souls and the Tree of Voices differ?
The avatar tree and the Tree of Voices differ in their significance and function within Na’vi culture. While both are revered, the Tree Souls acts as a direct connection to Eywa, the Na’vi deity, and is used for spiritual rituals and communication with the divine. In contrast, the Tree of Voices serves as a communication hub for the interconnected neural network of Pandora’s flora, facilitating communication between the Na’vi and the planet’s ecosystem.
Although both trees are similar in appearance, they are not from the same species. The Souls tree is described as a single, huge tree with bioluminescent tendrils, while the Tree of Voices consists of multiple smaller trees clustered together, forming a network for communication.
The avatar Tree holds greater significance and sacredness in Na’vi culture due to its role as the primary conduit for communication with Eywa. It is revered as the closest link to their deity and is central to their spiritual practices. The Tree of Voices, while important for communication with Pandora’s ecosystem, does not hold the same level of divine connection as the avatar Tree. Therefore, the soul tree is considered more sacred and revered among the Na’vi.
